– Sifuna said Wetang’ula was a broker using the Luhya nation to gain political points
– The ODM Secretary-General said Wetang’ula had been a liability in the NASA coalition
– Wetang’ula announced he had severed ties with Raila following his dethroning as Senate Minority Leader
– He was replaced by Siaya Senator James Orengo
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has hit back at Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula after he ditched NASA and termed him a “useless Luhya broker” seeking cheap political mileage.
The ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said Wetang’ula was a broker using the Luhya community for his political gain.
The Standard on Monday, April 9, quoted Sifuna as having said that Wetang’ula had been of little use in the Opposition coalition as he was only riding on ODM leader Raila Odinga’s back.
Sifuna was responding to Wetang’ula’s announcement that he had cut ties with Raila and he was now on his own political journey as reported earlier by exposeke.com
Wetang’ula said he had become wiser and would not wait to be treated like Deputy President William Ruto, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and the late Wamalwa Kijana who were all left bruised after working with Raila.
“The beating I have received from Raila at the top recently is the same beating he gave Wamalwa Kijana who leapt to be vice president, he hit Kalonzo who later became VP, he hit Ruto who is now Deputy President. Now he has hit Weta, I will leap even further than the three,” Wetangula said as earlier reported by exposeke.com
He said unlike the trio who later became vice presidents, he was aiming at a higher position without Raila.
Wetang’ula was kicked out of the office of the Senate Minority Leader in a coup mounted by ODM Senators who replaced him with James Orengo who was his deputy.
His woes started when together with Kalonzo and Musalia Mudavadi, decided to skip the controversial swearing in of Raila as the People’s President administered by the now embattled fiery lawyer Miguna Miguna.
The NASA co-principals drifted further when Raila emerged from a secret meeting with Uhuru and declared they had a deal to end dissent and start reconciling the country.
Aggrieved, Kalonzo, Mudavadi and Wetang’ula dismissed the deal, demanded answers from Raila for not consulting them and told Uhuru to create time for them as well.
Kalonzo has since embarked on rebranding his Wiper party to One Kenya Movement (OKM) while Mudavadi and Wetang’ula have indicated they will break their respective parties and form a single party for Western Kenya region.
